Executive Orientation Program Part II

In February 2006, United States Forces Korea established the Young Leaders’ Program as an outreach program as a Good Neighbor outreach program for Koreans, 30 to 50 years of age, influential in some aspect of Korean society; private sector, academia, government, or media (primarily CEOs, Presidents, Directors, Professors, Publishers, etc.). In March 2009, the program was renamed the Executive Orientation Program. All of those who attend Part I (Korea Update Briefing and DMZ Tour) become alumni and are eligible for the Young Leaders’ Program, Part II.

The Part II all-day program is hosted by the United Nations Command and United States Forces Korea and its purpose is to familiarize these young leaders with the future of the ROK-US Alliance. Throughout the entire day during both the briefings and tours, the orientation provides an opportunity for the participants to discuss the security situation in Korea with senior Korean and American military officers. Highlights of the program include:

-Visit to USAG Humphreys (Pyongtaek): The first hour at USAG Humphreys includes a detailed briefing by the US Army Garrison Humphreys regarding the relocation of units from Yongsan, Uijongbu and Tongduchon to the Pyongtaek area. At the conclusion of the formal briefing, there is a question and answer period to clarify any issues not fully explained during the briefing. This will be followed by a tour of Camp Humphreys to view the construction and future construction sites discussed in the briefing.

-Lunch: The Red Dragon Inn Dining Facility is the venue for lunch.

-Visit to Osan Air Base (Songtan):

• Visit the flight line to view the following US Air Force aircraft A-10, F-16 and U-2 and receive briefings from the pilots.

• Briefing in the “Hardened Tactical Air Control Center” (HTACC)

• Windshield tour of Osan AB to view construction and modernization projects

-Cocktails and Dinner: After a cocktail session with the pilots and other field grade officers, Major General hosts a dinner at the Osan Air Base Officers’ Club during which the guests will be able to participate in small group discussions.
