8th US Army Apologizes for Soldier Misconduct

Yongsan, Seoul, Republic of Korea – Major General John Morgan, acting 8th Army Commander, expressed his deepest regrets after a report of an early morning assault by an 8th Army Soldier on a Korean woman today in the Mapo district of Seoul.

"While no words can lessen the anguish of the victim or her family, I deeply regret and personally apologize for this terrible incident that has resulted in grave injury to a Korean civilian.” said General Morgan.

“This vicious act is an affront to all Soliders. It taints both our reputations and the sacrifices made by all USFK Servicemembers who live and work honorably within this great society. “ General Morgan said.

The Soldier was apprehended near the scene of the crime by Korean National Police. A joint investigation is underway, and USFK is cooperating fully with Korean authorities to see that the individual responsible for this crime is brought to justice.
